OVERFLOW! -a three part monumental, temporary art installation that was commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art during its ongoing 25th anniversary celebration, with support by Scottsdale Arts Festival. The installation was created with the help of over 20 crew members and volunteers, who inflated thousands of colorful recycled plastic bags, collected from bag drives, to create this low tech, eye-popping artwork. The completed OVERFLOW! was both humorous and disconcerting—a gleeful explosion of consumerist excess that examined social and environmental issues. Festival attendees saw OVERFLOW! as an intriguing call to action to use less plastic and reuse the plastic we do have. At the conclusion of this installation the plastic bags were returned to my Austin studio and sorted for continued reuse.
